  1. Voice Over IP is a protocol enabling a user to communicate by voice over one’s internet connection. You can use Skype or your own internet service provider’s service for it. It does’t require much of a configuration for your computer although a headset is always strongly recommended.

  2. Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP, IPA: /vɔɪp/) is a protocol optimized for the transmission of voice through the Internet or other packet switched networks. VoIP is often used abstractly to refer to the actual transmission of voice (rather than the protocol implementing it). This latter concept is also referred to as IP telephony, Internet telephony, voice over broadband, broadband telephony, and broadband phone. The last two are arguably incorrect because telephone-quality voice communications are, by definition, narrowband.

  3. VOIP stands for Voice Over IP. It is using the Internet for phone calls rather then a POST phone line. System requirements are low. If you have cable or DSL, you can use it for VOIP. If you have Yahoo IM, the phone feature on that is VOIP.

  4. VOIP is Voice Over Internet Protocol.
